Description:
White rhombohedral crystal or powder, with a relative density of 1.735 and a melting point of approximately 287 ℃, easily soluble in solvents such as water, ethanol, and acetone. The aqueous solution is neutral and reacts with iron salts to form blood red iron thiocyanate. It does not react with ferrous salts and reacts with concentrated sulfuric acid to form yellow sodium cyanide sulfate. It reacts with cobalt salts to form dark blue cobalt thiocyanate and with silver or copper salts to form white silver thiocyanate or black copper thiocyanate precipitates, which are easily deliquescent in air.
Applications:
Used as an additive for concrete in construction, a grinding aid for cement, a solvent for drawing acrylic fibers, a chemical analysis reagent, a color film processing agent, a defoliant for certain plants, and a weed killer for airport roads.
It is also used as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, mineral processing agents, printing and dyeing, rubber treatment, black nickel plating, and manufacturing of artificial mustard oil.
